Started in 2014
Pawsome Raw’s story started in 2014 when Retha was desperate to find an alternative for Keerah, the family’s Boerboel, which had a terrible skin condition; this after four years of frequent vet visits, endless courses of antibiotics and cortisone treatments.
Desperation
Out of sheer desperation and after many months of research, Keerah’s diet was changed to a RAW Pet Food Diet and the van der Walt canine children never looked back.
The Raw Diet Switch
With the switch to a raw dog food diet, which consisted of fresh meat, vegetables and fruit, she noticed a massive change in Keerah’s skin in just a few weeks. This change was also noticeable in the other dogs.
The Difference
Their coats were shiny, they were happy, their stools changed for the better and another bonus was no more stinky farts! It also made an immediate change to the number of vet visits (and costs).
Finding a Healthy Alternative for Pet Food
Retha’s friends and family noticed the change and pretty soon she started making Raw Pet Food for them too… never thinking that this could be a business one day; she just wanted to help dogs.
However, before she could blink, her passion for finding healthy alternative feeding plans and a balanced pet diet for fur-kids became a booming business based on referrals from people that had seen the remarkable change in their own dogs.

Pawsome Raw became a formal business in August 2016 with its products registered with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) as per regulations.
A classic tale of passion becoming a business and, in this case, to the great benefit of cats and dogs.
